Good progress is being made with setting up the neighbourhood forum that will prepare a neighbourhood plan for Wimbledon town. A working group has proposed what geographic area the plan should cover and drafted a constitution.
Merton is one of the few boroughs in London not to have any neighbourhood plans in an advanced stage of preparation. For the first time, the plans give real statutory powers over planning matters to local communities.
The Wimbledon Town Neighbourhood Plan will introduce new planning policies to ensure that the large amounts of development likely in Wimbledon (whether or not Crossrail 2 is built) have a positive impact on the town as a place to live and do business in, protecting its valued character, and improving social, cultural, economic and environmental conditions.
The steering group is looking for new members to help make this happen. No experience is necessary, and it could be fun. To find out more, contact email@example.com
